This single part has probably saved more Hayabusa motors from serious damage than any other part. Racers know that you can not trust high-performance motors to automatic cam chain adjusters. Easy to install, the manual tensioner can not back out allowing the cam chain to jump the sprockets as the auto adjusters have been known to do. APE manual cam chain tensioners are designed to replace the automatic and hydraulic tensioners on high-performance engines. The automatic adjusters can back out when the throttle is closed suddenly at high rpm. This allows the cams to go momentarily out of time, and can result in bent valves and/or serious engine damage. Hydraulic tensioners have a tendency to put too much tension on the chain guide under high rpm/high oil pressure conditions, resulting in premature wear. Both problems can be eliminated with the installation of the APE manual tensioner. No matter what the engine does, the cam chain tension will remain constant. An APE manual cam chain tensioner is a must for any kind of performance riding. APE manual tensioners are CNC machined from billet alloy to exact tolerances for perfect fit. *Colors will vary depending on Make/Model/Year and are not selectable. If you are not certain how to install the cam chain tensioner then it is advised that it be installed by a shop who is familiar with this process. IMPORTANT: When replacing any hydraulic oem tensioner with a manual tensioner, it is important to make sure that the oil passage that supplied the oem tensioner is blocked off. Failure to do so could result in a low oil pressure situation. INSTRUCTIONS To set the tensioner adjustment, rotate the engine forward while screwing the tensioner bolt in. When you feel the engine tensioner parts (guide, rollers, etc.) make contact with the moving cam chain, back the tensioner bolt out 1/4 turn and tighten the jam nut. (For the finer pitch thread on the APE Pro Series tensioner it is advised to back the tensioner up 1/2 of a turn.) DO NOT over-tighten the cam chain, as cam chain giude damage could occur. Be sure jam nut is tight against the tensioner body when complete.
